Page 2 - Making the oval

First well you should creat a new layer (CTRL-SHIFT-N) or creat it in the "Layers" window.

Create an oval that covers the top part of the rectangle (around 35%-50% of the rectangle)

For the oval's layer change the blending mode to Soft Light and the opacity to around 45% (you can also use a soft edged brush to blend the edges of the oval, this has not been done on this example.

Hi,
It all works fine, but the last step, when i click gradient tool and use it on the layer mask the entire font just becomes a bit lighter, i guess its something with the gradient color, but honestly i have no idea. Everything else is great, and your Battlefield 2142 header is awesome!
Btw. did you add any shadows or glows to the vertical lines which u get by brushing it, because in your header they look thicker than in mine.
